Today I’ve made some calls to phones using Gmail’s new “Call phones” feature, which allows you to call phones from Gmail and it’s been working pretty well. While on call, it didn’t feel like there was any latency or echo, so it was nice having a fluid conversation. Before Google made this feature available, I had been using Google Voice via Sipgate for making occasional calls from my computer, but always had some latency issues most likely due to piggy-backing on multiple services. I really like the advantages of Google Voice such as the voice mail transcription, managing my contacts online, and forwarding to all of my other phones at once.
